When we originally acquired the church, it represented above all a chance for me to create my own artistic space. In the last years, this became a reality with our series of events, the "printemps musicaux", gathering everybody here to celebrate the cultural "spring".
Now, it looks like that may be impossible this year, but this vision for the Eglise Sainte-Thérèse remains: to reach out to a global audience in its new life as a centre for art and culture.
This vision spawned a new project: every day I record here a favourite piece of music. I aim to capture the experience of the church's beautiful acoustics and optics. It has now been a month since the start of this daily online video series « Musique, ma patrie ! », and though making, cutting, and publishing videos (learning interesting skills meanwhile) is time-consuming, it has come to be an stimulating, instructive and edifying mission.
Personally presenting "my" music is something that I have actually been wanting to do for many years now, independently of my activities in music as a profession. It is perhaps like a chef sharing his culinary world – his recipes, knowledge, techniques – on his own terms instead of working in a restaurant. In short, Musique, ma patrie ! is about sharing what I know and love in music.
